Trafalgar Celebration with the Navy Larks
Join the Navy Larks Sea Shanty Singers for an evening of celebration to mark historic links between St Andrew's, Trafalgar and the Nelson family.
The evening is a celebration of Trafalgar Day and of the historic connections between the Nelson Family and St Andrew’s church. Refreshments will be provided.
Following Viscount Nelson’s death at the Battle of Trafalgar, a peerage in his honour was established, with his elder brother, William, becoming the 1st Earl. The 2nd Earl, Thomas Nelson, married Frances Elizabeth Eyre of Landford (2nd Countess Nelson), who lived in Landford Manor behind the church, in 1821.
They were married in St Andrew's, and the Countess donated most of the funds to rebuild the church in 1858 and the rectory in 1872. The Eyre family vault is below the floor of the South Chancel and there are several memorial plaques to members of the family on the wall inside the church.
